OUR WORK

What we do

The Middle Game Chess Foundation (MGCF) supports chess in the community.

We do this by:

  • Holding and investing funds prudently.
  • Funding the development of programmes at various levels for youngsters as young as 5 to the age of 18.
  • Providing financial support to our mens and womens teams selected to represent New Zealand at the biennial World Chess Olympiads.
  • Inviting international grandmasters to New Zealand to play in our top tournaments thereby giving our players the opportunity to compete at the highest level.

OUR SUPPORT

How we support

We offer support to a select number of chess players who have the potential to represent New Zealand at the highest level of international chess.

We know that chess can widen worlds, challenge minds and lead to better lives. Whatever their backgrounds and economic status, children taught chess tend to do better in school and better in life. Chess helps develop valuable reading, research, decision-making and life skills. It improves students’ ability to concentrate.

Research and experience suggest that chess benefits the mental acuity of people of all ages. The MGCF works with other organisations to attain the above-described objects and purpose.
